Need new flooring and feeling overwhelmed? This section outlines the steps in the flooring process and gives you an idea of what to expect.
When you are finally ready to invest in your home with new flooring, it can become overwhelming and feel like a hassle. There are many choices to make before purchasing flooring, including your budget, timeline, and the type of flooring you want.
Having a flooring consultant guide you through each step of the process can be a huge help. They can inform you about unexpected costs or potential issues that could arise along the way. At BDK Floors, you not only get a consultant, but one who puts your needs first—not their commission.
We want to hear about you and what brought you in. Whether you are renovating, building, or simply updating a room, our consultants take the time to understand your goals. At the end of the day, we want you to find flooring you love—not something you have to settle for.
Your initial flooring consultation can be done either in person or over the phone. The consultant will briefly go over the BDK Floors process with you. This helps you know what to expect and can get rid of any remaining anxiety. They will help you decide if you would rather have the In-Home Measurement appointment or the Showroom Consultation first. The order is not important but what works best for you.
Having a flooring technician perform an in-home measurement is a critical part of the process—and a major stress saver. One of the worst situations you can face is running short on material and having your project come to a halt. Ordering additional material and rescheduling the crew can delay your project by days or even weeks.
You’ll also have the opportunity to review which large pieces of furniture the installers will need to move, helping ensure installation day goes smoothly and without surprises.
If your project has a specific timeline, let your consultant know right away—especially if you’re coordinating with a contractor—as this can affect flooring availability. Some flooring options have longer lead times, meaning it may take more time to receive the material. Having a backup flooring choice helps prevent delays if your first option isn’t available.
The purpose of the room plays an important role in choosing the right type of flooring. For entryways or mudrooms, a hard surface is best — it’s easier to clean muddy footprints and less likely to be damaged than carpet.
Finding a color that complements your color theme can be tricky, but bringing color references can help your consultant confidently guide you to the right flooring.

When you arrive at the BDK Floors Showroom Consultation, your prep work will pay off, making the process easier and stress-free. Asking questions helps settle any remaining doubts about the kind of flooring you want, such as:
Together, you and your consultant will start looking at samples that meet your needs and preferences. Once the selection is narrowed down to a couple, BDK Floors allows you to borrow them free of charge for a few days. This allows you to see how they look in your lighting and space. Sometimes things we think will work in the store end up not looking right at home.
You may be asked to choose your first and second choice if you are on a tight timeline, which helps keep your project on schedule and ensures you feel confident in your selection.
Once you are comfortable with your final selection, your consultant will start the estimate process. During this step, your BDK Floors consultant will confirm when the material will be available for your project. They will also address any concerns that were noted during the in-home measurement appointment. This step is normally completed within two business days, but can it take longer. If it does, the consultant will reach out and inform you of any issues slowing down the process. Once the estimate is completed, the consultant will schedule a time to review it with you and answer any questions you may have. This gives you a clear understanding of your project cost and timeline to completion.
Your BDK Floors Consultant will guide you through the remaining steps once you are ready. Most of the work happens behind the scenes, so your part is almost done.
Your consultant will schedule a time for you to review and sign the contract.
Before the material can be ordered, a deposit is required. We accept card (with a processing fee), cash, or check to make it easy for you.
When your consultant receives an ETA on the material, they will tentatively set an installation date. Your consultant will communicate with you promptly if there is a delay in the material and if the installation date needs to move.
Our skilled installers take care of everything—from removing and disposing of your old flooring to installing your new floors according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. You can relax knowing the job will be done right.
At BDK Floors we want you to be satisfied with your new flooring. So, your consultant will reach out within 24 to 48 hours to ensure that you are and to set up final payment arrangements.
